In today's passage there is a revealing passage. As I struggle to make sense of all the chaos in Judges 21, the last passage brings amazing understanding.
"In those days Israel had no king; everyone did as he saw fit."
Is this not the recipe for chaos? Everyone does what is right in their own eyes explains much of the hard to follow chaotic events of Judges. The mindset of subjective "right" and "wrong" will never make for an orderly society. We need God's higher laws, leaders who follow God, and obedience.
One other note from the Proverbs gives us an attitude adjustment.
"An anxious heart weighs a man down, but a kind word cheers him up."
We can lift each other up with kind words, and we should.
