Day 158...(Judges 11,12; Proverbs 6; Mark 7)..."Jesus on Worship and Rules"

Jesus lays out important teaching about rules and worship. Tradition can get in the way of our worship of God. Tradition which helps us worship with God is good. Tradition which exists for the sake of tradition becomes meaningless rules. Here is the passage.

He replied, "Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you hypocrites; as it is written: " 'These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. They worship me in vain; their teachings are but rules taught by men.' You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to the traditions of men."

Our worship is best when tradition connects us to God and not tradition. We, today, often may traditional or contemporary worship the end. The worship of God is the end. This is also the true measure of any worship.
